No Words

No Word

a short poem on loss

by anna kettle

i know i am a writer,

but today i have no words

no inspiring thoughts,

no ideas or answers at all

no beautiful form of wordplay,

able to make everything okay

no clever turn of phrase,

to take the pain away

no remarkable insight,

to make it feel alright

no deeply longed-for miracle,

coming into sight

and so,

this ache remains

but with it,

the memory too

and that memory

is you.

maybe some things

are simply too precious

to ever fade away.
